Many scientific disciplines, including Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Bioinformatics, Physics, Mathematics, and Engineering, apply the notion of biotechnology—a multidisciplinary field of study—to the use of biological agents for human benefit. Karl Ereky, a Hungarian engineer, first used the phrase "biotechnology" in 1919, and since then, this field has revolutionised science. Technique-based, this discipline has a lot of promise in the future and is one of the most application-based courses. In 2021, Siddharth University launched a comprehensive postgraduate degree programme (MSc) in biotechnology. The department is also beginning a biotechnology Ph.D. programme. As a result, the department now offers Ph.D. and M.Sc. programmes in biotechnology.
This department's first batch, 2021–2023, has finished its training, and two further batches, 2022–2024 and 2023–2025, are now enrolled. The Department of Biology and Biotechnology includes resources for teaching and research in the areas of molecular biology, genetic engineering, plant tissue culture, microbiology, and drug design. The Department offers its students access to a computer lab and network, with a focus on academic expertise in areas such as plant tissue culture, genomic DNA isolation and analysis, microbe isolation, and biochemical investigations.

The main features of the Department are its labs, classrooms, bioinformatics facility, and staff of highly skilled, driven instructors and support personnel. The affiliated academic members have an impressive track record of doing research in a variety of fields related to Biotechnology. We offer M. Sc. (two year) and Ph. D. programmes that enable students to enhance their knowledge, initiate collaborations and establish contacts for manoeuvring their careers in the interdisciplinary field of Biotechnology.
